Andrés Neuman was born in 1977 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he spent his childhood. Son of emigrant musicians, he lives in Granada, Spain. He has a degree in Spanish Philology from the University of Granada, where he worked as a teacher of Spanish American literature. Through a vote called by the Hay Festival, he was included on the Bogotá-39 list among the most outstanding young Latin American authors. Later he was selected by Granta as one of the Best of Young Spanish-Language Novelists. At the age of 22 he published his first novel, Bariloche, distinguished as First Finalist in the Herralde Prize and selected as one of the best 10 novels of the year by the national newspaper El Mundo. His following novels were La vida en las ventanas and Una vez Argentina, again First Finalist in the Herralde Prize. His fourth novel, El viajero del siglo (Traveller of the Century), translated to 10 languages, won the Alfaguara Prize, was selected as one of the 5 best novels of the year in Spanish language by the critics of El País and El Mundo, and later achieved the prestigious National Critics Prize, organized annually by the Spanish Literary Critics Association. He has also published three books of short stories: El que espera, El último minuto and Alumbramiento. As a poet, he has published several books of poems, all of them later gathered in the volume Década. He is also author of a book of aphorisms, El equilibrista, and of a travel book about Latin America, Cómo viajar sin ver.
Andrés Neuman is one of the BEST YOUNG SPANISH AUTHORS according to GRANTA selection.
“Touched by grace. No good reader will miss in his work something than can only be found in the best literature, that of true poets. The literature of the 21st century will belong to Neuman and a few of his blood brothers." ROBERTO BOLAÑO
