Ernesto Sabato

ARGENTINA, 1911 - 2011

Ernesto Sabato earned his doctorate in Physics and worked on atomic radiation at the Curie Laboratory in France until 1945, when he dropped science to devote himself exclusively to literature. His three novels and various essays have made an impact on generations of readers, who consider him a ‘fellow traveller’ for his proximity to human experience. He has received a great deal of recognition for the quality of his work as well as his coherent work as a defender of human rights.

His work has affected many different generations of readers, making Sabato a canonical writer in Argentinian literature and an important figure in the philosophy and defence of human rights. He has received many awards for his work including the Cervantes Prize in 1984. Sabato's work has been translated into more than 30 languages.
