Fernanda García Lao

ARGENTINA, 1966

She was named at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2011 as «one of the best kept secrets of Latin American Literature».

The daughter of journalists who were forced into exile in Madrid, she lived in Spain from 1976 to 1993 where she studied piano, classical dance, acting and journalism. She has written and directed several plays that have toured Latin America. She has published the novels Muerta de hambre (Dying of Hunger, 1st Prize from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes), La perfecta otra cosa (The Perfect Other Thing, 3rd in the Cortázar Prize), La piel dura (Hard Skin) and Vagabundas (Wanderers). She writes for various different publications on both sides of the Atlantic. Her work has been published in Argentina and France.
