NOVEL. ALFAGUARA, 2013. 128 PAGES.

CLARÍN NOVEL PRIZE 2013

A young agricultural scientist goes to a farm in Patagonia to carry out some pest control. He’s accompanied by his dog Atila, who he is closer to than any human. The owners of the house await him in the remote valley: an old man with a degenerative disease, the surly woman who takes care of him and her young son. His discomfort starts to build as soon as he arrives: the isolation of the place is extreme, the nature hostile, the animals that roam in the region are attacking the livestock and a dark and sinister presence can be felt throughout the area.

The story will keep readers on tenterhooks, beset by a chilling atmosphere filled with an undefined threat. Featuring uncommon mastery of tension and suspense, Beasts Outside explores the primitive urges and uncontrollable passions that lurk inside all of us.

"A work that keeps the reader in a state of grace
but also tension from beginning to end."
Claudia Piñeiro

"The author has created a complex,
attractive and original world."
Eduardo Sacheri

"...a metaphor on the struggle between good and evil...
a war in which nobility occasionally wins out."
Juan Cruz

"The last Clarín Novel Prize allowed us to meet
a fascinating novel, Beasts outside
of Fabián Martínez Siccardi"
