Short Forms

Ricardo Piglia

NON FICTION. ANAGRAMA, 1999. 142 PAGES.

Short Forms is a composition in search of the right phrase, the right image and the right idea. When they finish the book the reader has the sensation of having passed through a laboratory, celebrating what is possible in literature. In Piglia’s words, the texts in this volume “could be read as lost pages in a writer’s diary and also as the first essays and draughts for a future biography.” He adds: “It could be understood as an exercise in criticism of short texts that also contains them.”

From Borges to Chekhov, Kafka to Joyce, Macedonio Fernández to Hemingway, Short Forms has room for every great writer.
