SCIENCE FICTION. SUMA DE LETRAS, 2006. 288 PAGES.

Blue Gel contains two novellas by one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary science fiction, Blue Gel and An Explosion of Silence.

Blue Gel takes us to a world where the most indicative symbol of someone's status, wealth and power is the amount of time they spend in virtual reality, for which it is necessary to submerge oneself in tanks of protein gel, as Gloria Cubil, the daughter of the most powerful man in the country, has done. One morning, the body of a dead baby appears floating in Gloria's tank, and the girl herself has been raped...

In An Explosion of Silence, a bio-mechanical ship shaped like a jelly-fish silently moves through space on a voyage of thousands of years to Epsilon Eridani, carrying the cryogenically frozen bodies of a man and woman. Every hundred years, an insectoid robot, similar to a large praying mantis, wakes up from a deep sleep to make sure that the ship's systems are functioning before returning to its slumber. Everything goes normally until the day that the robot begins to dream. And with dreams, it discovers a conscience, identity, anguish and desire...
