Historia Calamitatum

Diego Vecchio

NOVEL. PARADISO EDICIONES, 2000. 288 PAGES.

Historia calamitatum is the title of a letter that Abelardo wrote to a friend to describe his "de-testiculation'. Like all letters, it has an addressee, Eloísa, thus beginning a celebrated epistolary exchange.
And so the correspondence begins with non-correspondence: literature is misunderstanding.
Historia calamitatum by Diego Vecchio, is an epistolary novel written as farce: the farce consists less of undermining a story or genre than creating an experience: using humour to make the Spanish language a dead tongue.
