Opportunity

Juan José Saer

NOVEL. SEIX BARRAL, 1988. 252 PAGES.

La ocasión (Opportunity) tells the tale of Bianco, a master of the occult who must leave Europe hounded by what he calls "the conspiracy of the positivists of Paris”, settling on the bleak plains of the Argentine Pampas of the 19th Century.

The more material goods that Bianco accumulates, the more he seems to lose his powers. Obsessed by the unsettling figure of a woman, he slips progressively into a kind of delirium.
