The Violet Life

Grecia Cáceres

NOVEL. ESTRUENDOMUDO, 2007. 168 PAGES.

The cotton piled up. In the poor light, the effect was even more disgusting. Like a wound being cleaned, the garish colour of blood, scenes from a tabloid crime section. But when she finally saw her clean, trimmed nails, her hands looked more fragile but seemed less red, her fingers longer and more elegant and her golden rings stood out more against her skin. What relief, like putting one’s feet up after a long day; a body responding to its pampering. Her hands were rejuvenated and the world seemed simpler and healthier.
