While the Body Flees

Ricardo Sumalavia

NOVEL. ESTRUENDOMUDO, 2012. 120 PAGES.

In the last days of Fujimori's government, ex-lieutenant Apolo suddenly finds his life dedicated to private investigation after a fraudulent clean-up initiative sees hundreds of policemen retired from the service. Elsewhere, a woman is stabbed by her husband in broad daylight in the plain sight of witnesses. This is the context in which the narrator of this novel goes beyond traditional crime fiction, questioning even the beginning of the story. During an autobiographical investigation full of irony, nostalgia and surprises, he meets Apolinario, his father in law, who turns out to be a paradoxical character who will force us into different readings of this novel and end up drawing us either into a new reality, or a new, conflictive and chaotic fiction.
