ESSAY. ENTROPÍA, 2015. 113 PAGES

In an old notebook bought in a nondescript neighbourhood in a strange city, Sergio Chejfec jots down his personal but essential thoughts about writing. On this journey through fiction and narrative literature, he guides the reader through conceptual modes and trances of experience: from the ephemeral minutiae of manuscripts to the intense insomnia of digital writing via the rituals required for typewriters and the solipsistic strategies of creation.

Writing is a descriptive action with increasingly remote results, but everyone remembers with greater or lesser nostalgia the act of making their mark on a page. Once the tangible qualities of writing have disappeared they must be recovered by other means. This book explores the compensatory returns to the past that might be employed when digital literature appears to have been definitively altered by the physical absence of the original and at the same offers a genealogy: the clandestine tale of a writer's origins.

Latest News from Writing is born of an intimate, extensive creed: whatever form it takes, writing is an activity with natural qualities. In a footnote, Chejfec asks himself: "Can anyone really seriously argue that writing doesn't exist? It's like denying the rain."
