NOVEL. LITERATURA RANDOM HOUSE, 2012. 350 PAGES

Alberto Shapiro has only written one book but he still makes a living giving talks in the United States. Generally speaking, his subject is the recent history of Chile. One day, however, he is invited to give a conference on the diaspora back in his home country. It is 2009 in Santiago, and his return to his home country also marks a return to the resentments and characters that defined his departure several years before: Frank his obsessive editor and travelling companion, Roberto Bolaño, a friend in literature and real life, Fer, his son from his first marriage and also his own memories, which open up to morbid reminiscences and writing from the past.

This is a novel about a terminal crisis where everything seems calm and serene, and the violence, betrayal and neglect that characterise Alberto’s return to Santiago.
