Target in the Night, by Ricardo Piglia, José María Arguedas Novel Award
The José María Arguedas Novel Award, awarded by Casa de las Américas in Cuba in 2012 goes to Blanco Nocturno (Target in the Night), the last novel by Ricardo Piglia.
Ricardo Piglia has also been awarded the Rómulo Gallegos Award and the Critics Award in 2011 with Target in the Night, a novel published by Anagrama.
In 2000, Casa de las Américas announced, for the first time and being part of its Literary Award, three more honorific and very prestigious awards: José Lezama Lima, for poetry; Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, for essays, and José María Arguedas, for novels. This three names are not only emblematic in the literary scene of Latin America, but they were also involved in the Casa de las Américas and the award itself, from their start. The three awards are given to works written in the Spanish language and to authors from Latin Ameria. Their aim is to give a widespread coverage to modern classics.
